I've heard my grandparents (from Ecuador) use andar as: to go (by means of) - andar por bicicleta

Actually, the correct way to say "to ride a bicycle" is "andar en bicicleta" (or "andar en bici" for short) ;-)

"Me da igual" is a great phrase. Lots of beginners use the phrase "no me importa," but this can have a kind of a negative conotation - it's something you might say in an argument or out of frustration, sort of like "I don't give a ....."
Stick with "me da igual" to be polite.
