Wouldn't using "hacer" instead of "quedar" be more appropriate?

Hacer would be correct but this is an idiomatic phrase, that as a native speaker said to me, would be something you would say to your friends or family if there were a lot of choices of things to do. So both would work but I heard this phrase and have shared it with my listeners.
